The "Load"Master - La Russa signs on for 3 More

« Phil Rogers of ESPN calls the Cardinals "diminished" | Main | Introduction: Still Learning »

Like him or not, reports are trickling in that Tony La Russa has agreed to a 3-year contract worth $2.5-3 million per season.

This from the Post-Dispatch:

The club is expected to announce next week a three-year agreement that will keep manager Tony La Russa in place through the 2007 season, when he will rank as the third-winningest skipper in the game's history. The deal is the longest signed by La Russa since being named Cardinals manager in October 1995 and would put him second to Red Schoendienst for the longest stay in the position should he serve its complete term.

$3 Million can buy you about 20 minutes of the war in Iraq, 8 games of Shaquille O'Neal, or one-half of Lee Majors.

I'm just hoping it buys us a chance to return to the Series and erase any ideas that the Redbirds are the NL version of this guy.

Did Mr. Slave dominate the league during the regular season only to fold in the WS, or am I missing something? (I'm guessing I'm missing something).

Let me see if I can put it another way...

While Mr. Slave (Cardinals) may have crushed Paris Hilton (the competition) in the Whore-Off (regular season), he is still Mr. Garrison's (Red Sox) bitch.

Aha. Thanks for the explainer. I'm glad that it had nothing to do with lemiwinks.

Ah, yes, Lemiwinks! That would be the Cubs in our little tale.

[I pondered using this http://badgas.co.uk/images/moment_082.jpg as an example of a subservient, but I figured South Park was much more appropriate.]

I don't know, Lemiwinks eventually found his way home.
