I think this interview on Athletics Nation with Billy Beane has been brought up before here but I don't think this part has ever come up:

Someone emailed me something written on a Cardinals' blog, and they had nailed all the things we were talking about. The economic reasons, the personnel reasons and the reasons we made the exchange.

Really? I'd be very curious to find out which blog Beane is referring too. It's interesting how short the feedback loops are these days though.

That was an intresting interview. BB is definitely entertaining and a great salesman. Believe me, I'm impressed by him and his crew, but can I point out a couple things?

First of all, it sucks he doesn't have more money to play with, I'm sure he could build a ridiculous team.

But he talks like crazy about Bobby Crosby, who, by my estimation didn't have a very good rookie year.
130 hits, 22 HR(nice), 58 BB, 141 SO, .319 OBP, .426 SLG, .239 AVG.

I"m sure at the price, it's a bargain, and I leave plenty of room for him to become the player BB says he'll be. But Beane cleverly skirts around how it sucks to develop players like Tejada and then let them go because they can't sign them and then redevelop players like Bobby Crosby, who if develops as proposed won't be an A for long anyway. He says it's great to have cheap infielders so they can get guys like Appier. Hmmmm. I don't think that's so great.

It must be frustrating to be an A's fan. Beane claims to come out victorious on so many trades because of how much cheap/valuable potential he gets and the fans live on promises. I don't mind driving a Saturn, just don't try to convince me it's a Mercedes. When the A's win a WS, I'll be totally convinced, but until then I remain skeptical of all the shimmer and fanfare.

I'm glad as a Cards fan the most exciting thing about our team is not our famous GM.

Wow, that would be so cool if he's talking about us.

Somebody should ask him for his source. Does anybody around here know Billy Beane? :)

Crosby's season, offensively, was pretty good for a shortstop, and especially for a rookie SS. Last year Renteria was -.019 to Crosby in OPS and inked himself at $10mil per year. In fact, Renteria has only had 3 seasons of OPS better than Crsoby last year, and 2 of those weren't by much.
