A little K-Rob Love

I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and ran across this book:

There are children around the world who will learn about baseball from this book. And no matter what else he's done in his career, the definitive picture of a baseball player for these children will be Kerry Robinson. That's awesome. It's not up there with 'Hall of Fame' but it's still a really cool thing.

(You have to trust me that it is Kerry Robinson, It's a phone camera picture inside so it's not the best shot ever).

EXCERPT:

"The most important thing a player can do is hit .290. This should be accomplished by hitting the ball out of the infield as little as possible and running really, really fast. If you walk a lot, people will have time to see your ugly, ugly face. So don't do that, either."

For how much love was sprinkled all over Bo Hart and Stubby Clapp, my favorite bench warmer was always K-Rob. I'm always hoping that he makes it back to StL someday.

There we go, just click on the picture on that page and you'll get an expanded view in a popup where the "0" on K-Rob's helmet is clearly readable. Also not the Cardinals Pennant near the upper left corner.

What an ugly cover photo for a primer on "Baseball."

You'd think it would be a photo of some god-like hitter or pitcher perfoming one of the fundamental acts of the game---not some guy flopped on his belly caught with a very (let's face it) unflattering, squinched-up expression on his face.

This is not a book I'd want lying around on the coffee table, having to look at for any length of time.

Upon close examination of the autographed baseball on the cover, I 've concluded that it represents the 1987 World Cahmpion Minnesota Twins. The two clearest signatures are Tom Kelly and Steve Carlton, but I think I can make out Tom Brunansky and Steve Lomardozzi as well.
