Back In The Saddle
« The Matheny Line | Main | Bing Devine Sighting »I've been wandering around the South, watching guys like Felix Pie, Delmon Young, Joel Guzman and Bobby Jenks (who struck out Pie in the 12th with the bases loaded). While I did my best to keep up with the Cards, SportsCenter doesn't cut it like it used to, so I had to check the stats pages when I got back home. Did you know that Edmonds passed Pujols in OPS with his recent Kannon Kile-induced binge? Here's a look through yesterday's game:

I was also a little surprised to see how much Taguchi has tailed off the last few weeks and I'm still wondering what it will take for Cedeño to get released.
(And as soon as I post this, Cedeño turns a flyout into a three-base error.)
Posted by Rob at May 30, 2005 09:58 PMWell. come on, Rob, he isn't on the team for his defense...
Posted by: Dan at May 30, 2005 11:06 PMI would like the Cardinals to trade Cedeno for cash considerations... in the vein of $1.
Posted by: at May 30, 2005 11:46 PMYeah, he's on the team for those dribblers in front of Pujols home runs.
Cedeño looks as out-of-sync at the plate as Ankiel did on the mound in October 2000. This won't be solved with 5 at-bats a week and there's no way you want to see Cedeño playing everyday in games that count.
Posted by: Rob at May 30, 2005 11:49 PMCedeno es no bueno!
I still don't think his single in the game justifies that error.
Great to have you back.
Posted by: ryan vb at May 31, 2005 08:37 AMI keep thinking of all the reasons the Cards have given for keeping Gall in Memphis. If they used those reasons to judge Cedeno this year, he'd be in Peoria. Why not let Roger go, and give Gall a chance?
They always talk about it being good for a young player to play everyday, rather than rot on the bench in the show. But nobody rots playing for Tony... even Cedeno is getting at-bats, and even spot starts.
With Rolen hurt (Mabry playing more 3B and less OF), and Tony giving Walker more time off than the Maytag repair man, theres plenty of ABs up here for a guy like Gall.
Posted by: Kyle at May 31, 2005 09:37 AMWe should have more seismographs on the Birdwatch, and we should have less Cedeno's on the Cardinals.
Posted by: John at May 31, 2005 09:58 AMRe: less Cedeno's: Cesar would probably provide better offense and comparable defense, today, at whatever his age is.
