Chatter: Red Sox at Birds

« Roger DL'ed | Main | Cardinals Link Blog Take 2 »

What the hell, I'll see if I can get a chatter going for this compelling interleague tussle.

Can the scrappy, blue-collar dirt-dog Cinderella Bosox continue their incredible run against the big, bad NL powerhouse Cardinals?

Morris (6-0) vs. the Knuckleballer (too lazy to look up his junior circuit record).

Here we go!!

Nice 4-6-3. Glad to have you back, Edgar.

Good to say Morris get through the 1st without much trouble, on 14 pitches, to boot.

Now let's get a whole bunch of runs of this junkballler.

Nice inning, Birds. You'd almost think Larry Walker batted in there.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 07:24 PM

Damn. I was hoping the Birds could grab the lead first in this game---they never led in the Series last year, and who knows, they may never lead against them this year..

COME ON, BATS!!!!

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 07:33 PM

Attaboy, Reggie. There gos the no-hitter.

Still haven't seen a hard-hit ball yet by the Birds...

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 07:38 PM

Honest Abe, up there hackin at the floaters!!

Birds on the board, game tied 1-1, aggressive running by Walker going from 1st to 3rd...

Let's get a couple more!!

AND THE BIRDS HAVE A LEAD!!!

The bottom of the order showing how to do it.

Yadier looks a hell of a lot more like a hitter than Matheny ever did.

Morris with the SUICIDE!!!!!

A little NL ball!!!

3-1 Birds.

The Boston announcer just whined about the disadvantage the poor AL teams have coming in to play in NL parks.

"American League teams, sure the pitchers practice the hitting, but the NL teams, they have PLAYS they use for their pitchers, they'te doing it all the time. And the AL teams have to sit their designated hitter."

Like the NL teams don't have a disadvantage playing in AL parks; it's as if most NL teams have a big hulking one-dimensional non-fieldfing bat sitting on the bench.

Morris is throwing in the mid-90's again, weird.

Jerry Remy just went on for the remainder of the inning about Pujols after Albert "didn't run hard to 1st" on the grounder to short. "The game sure has changed. I was taught there was a right way to play the game, etc. etc."

Someone ought to tell that idiot that Pujols has a painful chronic foot condition, and had surgery last off season. Moron.

My wife just e-mailed "Rem-Dog" in the NESN booth and asked him why he's not better informed about his team's opponents.

Morris looking very workman-like out there.... pitching quickly, throwing strikes, getting a lot of grounders, and he's at just 52 pitches after 4.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 08:12 PM

That's 4 rbi out of the 7-8-9 hitters tonight.

With the hit-an-run ground out by Molina, it's 4-1, Birds.

salvo, what I don't get is how a guy who watches Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz plod around all day is complaining about the way Albert Pujols plays the game.

Posted by: Dan at June 6, 2005 08:22 PM

HOOOO!! Fantastic play by Grudz--firts, just getting to the grounder, then a very quick plant with an instantaneous peg to first to nip the speedy Payton. He has a great arm. Womack doesn't make either half of that play.

59 pitches through 5 for Morris.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 08:31 PM

YOW!! Thank you, Edgar---this time a 6-4-3.

Six innings on 67 pitches for Morris.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 08:43 PM

5-1, Birds. All rbi by the little guys, 7-8-9-1.

Nice piece of hitting by Eck to wait on th knuckler and punch it through to right field.

Morris looking good so far.

Let's get a couple more!!

Morris gets his first K at a great time to end the 7th with a runner on 1st: Varitek swings and misses at a full-count slider down and low after Morris' 1-2 pitch right there was called ball two.

Seven innings, four hits, 1 run, 80 pitches.

Who's this bearded guy wearing #35 and throwing 94 mph?

Posted by: Rob at June 6, 2005 09:20 PM

Eight innings, 93 pitches...two baserunners allowed since one out in the 2nd, and one of those erased on a DP.

Question: Does Tony leabe Morris in?

He'd better, or he's just a pathetic machine.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 09:22 PM

Who's that guy playing shortstop for the Red Sox?

Posted by: Rob at June 6, 2005 09:29 PM

ICING ON THE CAKE----Thank you, Edgar, for the third time tonight.

Posted by: salvo at June 6, 2005 09:30 PM

What a fun game----I would have loved it in October, but I'll take it now.

Morris in a groove all night, throws the complete game on 101 pitches, only two basrunners since one out in the second.

That Eckstein 2-run triple after the Renteria error had me howling at the TV.

All 7 rbi came from the 7-8-9-1 hitters.

Let's hope the Pujols, Edmonds, et al show up tomorrow against the fastballer.

It was awesome being at the game last night. I must admit, I did boo Edgar every time he came to bat and I don't feel bad about it in the least. On KFNS this morning they were saying that it seemed that the folks who gave Edgar the standing ovation were clapping more to preserve the image of the "classy" Cardinal fan than they were clapping for Edgar. Given the fact that the booing went on for about 15 or 20 seconds before the clapping, that seems to be a good theory.

Anyway, first time at this site and I think it's very cool.
