« Dominant Pitching, The Sequel | Main | Rolen on the Dock by the Bay »Cool article. I really like the guy.
Yady may never be an all-star, but he will probably turn into a great defensive catcher with a serviceable 8-bat -- anything more is gravy. Goes to show the value of a farm system isn't in how many prospects you have, but how many daily players the farm produces.
Who are teh active home grown starters for the Cards? Pujols, Morris and Yady? Anyone else?
Posted by: Ryan at June 16, 2005 06:11 PMI dunno, ever since he broke that 1/34 open to the season, he's been a rather good #8 spot. Obviously, he won't ever have the bat of say, IRod or Piazza in his prime, but I think he's more than serviceable ;).
Posted by: Vincent at June 16, 2005 08:22 PMTotally unrelated, but found THIS amusing:
"With Restovich's homer, the Pirates remained the only major league team with an extra-base hit in every game this season."
Posted by: Vincent at June 16, 2005 11:06 PMThat's a funny pirate stat.
Your point on Yady is not unnoticed. But I mean the guy is really young, and just like he had a really crappy streak, he could be just having a really good streak now. If he becomes a career .280 hitter believe me that's better than serviceable for a catcher, regardless of pop or obp.
I just meant I'm not ready to crown him king of both sides of the plate because he bats near .300 for a month. He should have a healthy career with us ahead of him, and I'm anxious to see how he performs over the next several seasons....
