Congrats, Sox...

...your World Series victory now means that more teams than not have won a championship since the Cardinals' last title in 1982.

Of franchises that can claim a World Series title, only the Phillies ('80), Pirates ('79), Giants ('54), Indians ('48) and Cubs ('08) have a longer dry spell than the Birds. [list corrected after comment from astute reader]

Still to win a World Series are (inception date in parentheses): Texas/Washington (1961); Houston ('62); Milwaukee/Seattle ('69); Washington/Montreal ('69); San Diego ('69); Seattle ('77); Colorado ('93); Tampa Bay ('98).

Long-time lurker here...

Just wanted to correct a couple of things: the Senators that won the '24 World Series moved to Minnesota. The second incarnation of the Washington Senators were an expansion team that became the Rangers. Secondly, my wife is a big Indians fan so I'm sure she'd like me to point out that the Indians won their last WS title in 1948, thus making the Cubs' dry spell *by far* the longest.

Right you are Paul--no excuse for sloppy research.

I overlooked the Indians' '48 title as my eyes glazed over amid all the Yankee titles of that era, and I flat-out forgot that the Rangers are evolved from the expansion Senators, and not the "original" Senators, from whence came the Twins.

Thanks for the vigilance, and sorry for the Tribe slip. A 57-year drought, while dismal, still beats an 85-year drought.

and the Cubs shall continue to keep losing.

Can anyone help out a fellow Card fan?

What I've never heard that I'm most interested in: the average number of pitches thrown per at bat, and the average batting average and/or on base % for each at bat that ends on a certain pitch count? Points go to he/she that lists that crazy at bat that saw more pitches thrown than any other.
