Pretzel Logic
Any Major Dude Will Tell You that I didn't expect Jim Edmonds to be back in a Cardinals uniform. My thought after the World Series was "Great way to go out, 'cause there's no way the Cards' front office is going to pay the money to bring you back. It's been fun." So my Pretzel Logic was twisted on its ear this weekend, when Walt and company played their own version of "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", signing Jimmy to a 2-year, $19 million contract.
Paraphrasing Walt, "In the postseason, it looked like Jimmy was Through With Buzz, you know, the concussion stuff was a thing of the past. We need a center fielder With A Gun, and our man Jimmy has one. Night By Night, he comes through for us."
So after the World Series victory, cleansing from our memories the defeat to Barrytown in '04, Jimmy decides to do the East St. Louis Toodle-oo for a couple more years. I'm happy he'll stick around with Parker's Band, er, um, La Russa's Band, for a few more fence-climbing exploits, throwing out a couple more ill-advised runners tagging up from third, doin' his "Charlie Freak" thing out patrolling the wide open spaces of Busch IIIs outfield.
I hope it makes the Monkey In Your Soul feel good, like it did for me. I just hope he can hold that aching body together for 2 more seasons.
Rest well this offseason, Jimmy, you've earned it.
